On January 4, 2007, the USB Developer Forum announced the plug specification for Micro-USB. The standard will replace the Mini-USB on many new smartphones and PDAs. The Micro-USB plug has a plug-in life of 10,000 times, which is half the height of the Mini-USB plug and the width is almost the same. The OMTP organization recently announced that Micro-USB will be the standard interface for mobile device data and power.

On February 17, 2009, the Global Mobile Communications Alliance announced that it will use Micro-USB as the global standard charger specification by 2012.
